Biography of Dr. Akong Tulku Rinpoche

Dr. Akong Tulku Rinpoche, President of ROKPA INTERNATIONAL, is a Tibetan meditation master and doctor. He came to the West as a refugee in the 1960′s and co-founded Samye Ling Tibetan Centre in Scotland.

Rinpoche’s life is dedicated to helping anybody who needs help, regardless of race or religion. Not only does he teach meditation techniques in over 30 meditation centres worldwide, as well as training people in the areas of mental health and psychotherapy, but he also founded the charity ROKPA INTERNATIONAL, whose activities in Tibet, Nepal and worldwide have helped many thousands of destitute and needy people.

When he returned to Tibet in the 1980′s on a short visit, Rinpoche was greatly moved to discover that the Tibetan language and culture were in danger of being lost. He also encountered dire poverty, lack of education and environmental problems. So he began to establish projects to help Tibetans to help themselves, and to revive their culture and language.

Rinpoche has inspired many people world wide with his skill and compassion, and those who work with him try their very best to emulate his ability to help others without prejudice, and with a completely altruistic motivation.
