New concrete homes

Update from Yushu

This photograph, taken by a ROKPA representative this week, shows the extent of the landscape that once was houses and streets and now is covered with tents.

Also shown are some of the new concrete shelters built as homes, alongside a traditional yak tent and a family in one of the new tents provided by ROKPA.

All ROKPA tents distributed

New ROKPA home

New ROKPA home

Newest update from Yushu:

We distributed over 100 tents to some of the poorest people of the Yushu area, as well as to clinics and to families looking after orphans. They really need these tents to be prepared for the rain season and the lower temperatures (Yushu tonight: 7 degrees Celsius).

Thanks to Your generous donations, this woman is receiving one of the 107 tents with 22 square meters for small families. She was glad to be able to move to her insulated and weatherproof new home.
We’ll give you new updates as we get them.

You want to continue in helping us help the people of Yushu? We are happy about any amount you can give via Paypal.
And remember, every cent we receive is spent directly in Yushu.

Thank you for your amazing help so far!

ROKPA graduate distributes over 100 high quality tents in Yushu

A phone call today to Yushu reveals that all but three of the 107 high-quality tents that arrived last week have been given out to those most in need. These tents are fireproof, insulated and come with hard floors. One ROKPA graduate was given the job to make sure this happened and she has spent a week visiting over 20 families, working from lists prepared by ROKPA associates in the area. These tents have gone to individual families, the orphans’ school, nearby villages, Trangu Monastery and the Tulku College.

“It’s quite a hard job” said Droni “I’m meeting people who have been paralysed and its difficult to say who are the neediest because everybody has become poor. Some of tents I’ve seen are not as good quality as these, although every family has a tent now. Solar lights and cookers are still to arrive and are really needed”.

To help ROKPA with the medium and long-term need to provide to orphans and others in need in Yushu, please continue to give generously. ROKPA is able to reach those places that others cannot.
